As a Bay Area native, I am excited to be back home at the flagship, state-of-the-art Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center. After completing medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine, I traveled back west to complete my general surgery residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. During that time, I completed a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
I completed fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. I am board certified in both General Surgery and Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery from the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery, respectively.
My clinical interests involve all aspects of thoracic surgery, especially minimally invasive lung and esophageal surgery, image-guided surgical techniques for small lung nodules, and multimodality treatment of mesothelioma. Along with my colleagues, I am committed to maintain Kaiser Permanente in Oakland as a center of excellence for the Bay Area and continue its values and success. I am looking forward to the exponential growth in thoracic surgery and inspired to provide the best surgical services and excellent patient care.
In addition to my full-time clinical duties at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center, I am a clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. My role entails teaching and training UCSF medical students and surgery residents throughout the course of the year. I am very interested in surgical quality research pertaining to outcomes in minimally invasive surgeries for lung and esophageal cancer. I currently have ongoing studies pertaining to novel ways to provide better pain relief after thoracic surgery, multimodality treatment of mesothelioma, and the incidence and outcomes for never-smokers with lung cancer.
My wife, also a Bay Area native, is an internal medicine physician at Kaiser Permanente and together we look forward to making you a priority and providing you the highest quality of care possible. In my spare time, you can find me with our two young boys at the park or on the beaches of Hawaii.
