Kanti Uppal, MD

Thank you for visiting my home page. This site provides an opportunity to introduce myself to my patients.

I was raised in Southern California and after finishing my training, returned to California for my professional practice. I have lived in Northern California now for over ten years with my wife and two sons. I received my undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in Neurobiology. I then went to Chicago, IL, for my medical education at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Subsequently, I completed my general surgery internship and residency at USC. Additionally, I spent a year completing a Cardiothoracic research fellowship at USC where my research emphasis was on the role of topical hypothermia and myocardial preservation during beating heart surgery along with multiple other clinical projects. In addition, my interest in clinical studies led to publications that have been presented at international meetings. Finally, I pursued specialized training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Michigan under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Orringer, a national known expert in the field of Thoracic Surgery with emphasis on the care for complex esophageal and pulmonary disease.

As a surgeon within Kaiser Permanente, I am provided the opportunity to conduct my medical practice at the level of an academic center.  At Kaiser Permanente in Modesto, Thoracic Oncology is treated with a multi-disciplinary approach with all aspects of care delivered within one institution.  My interests include minimally invasive surgery with the use of thorascopic surgery for the treatment of pulmonary and esophageal disease including benign disease such as hyperhydrosis.
